Who We Are
The Dignity Party is a political organization based in South Australia, dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities. Founded in 2004 as Dignity for Disabled, we have grown from a group of passionate parents advocating for better post-school options for their children, into a broader movement addressing a wide range of human rights issues.
Our History
Our journey began under the name Dignity for Disabled (d4d), with a focus on lobbying for increased government support for the disability sector. In 2009, under the leadership of Rick Neagle and Dr. Paul Collier, we expanded our mission to include mental health and broader human rights issues. This led to our rebranding as Dignity for Disability.
The significant impact of our advocacy work culminated in the election of Hon. Kelly Vincent MLC in 2010, marking a pivotal moment in our history. Recognizing the need to represent a wider range of issues, in 2016 we transitioned to the Dignity Party. Our commitment to promoting equity and awareness continues to be at the forefront of our mission.
Our Vision
We envision a society where every individual, regardless of their abilities, can participate fully and freely, with dignity and respect. We strive to influence policies and legislation to ensure greater equity and support for people with disabilities and their families.
Our Activities
- Advocating for policies that improve the lives of people with disabilities.
- Engaging with communities to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
