Cyanne Westerman, GILES
Using the Changing Places accessible bathroom at the Elizabeth Shopping Centre in Adelaide, proved to be an emotional experience for Cyanne. Freedom to travel, to stay at events and participate in community life opens up when suitable toilet facilities are available.
Cyanne wants the local Whyalla beach to be fully accessible, including for the use of beach wheelchairs. She understands that many people will require a lifter/hoist and an adult change table to be able to use these chairs. A Changing Places at the beach would allow more people to enjoy the beach.
Cyanne is a champion for young people, and particularly wants to highlight the struggle of regional South Australians who do not always have access to a full range of services. Post-school options and employment for people with disabilities are another area of focus.
Cyanne has a Certificate IV in Residential Drafting and a Diploma of Interior Design. She pursued these qualifications specifically to engage in creating more accessible housing, both for people with specific accessibility requirements, and to ensure more universally designed housing.
