Dignity Party slams budget measures
SA’s Dignity Party has slammed budget measures to impose some cuts on disabled and other welfare recipients with substance abuse issues. The changes affecting welfare include a tightening of the disability support pension by blocking people whose disability solely stems from drugs or alcohol.
Dignity Party MLC Kelly Vincent says it’s a harsh and narrow minded move: “We know that lots of people who use drugs do so because they’re looking for some kind of relief, it is very naïve and heartless of a government to look at removing these people’s financial lifeline without also seeking to address some of those underlying causes.”
