Govt slammed by the disabled for not including a right turn in the tram extension
The State Government’s been slammed by the disabled for not including a right turn in the tram extension at King William Street. The $80m track upgrade to the east won’t send trams from Glenelg in that direction meaning passengers will have to either change trams, get out and walk or sit in the same tram to Hindmarsh before returning to the East End.
Dignity Party MLC Kelly Vincent says it just doesn’t make sense:
5AA “The department talks about how futureproof this project is. Well, given that we can’t turn right and that leads to quite a trek for older people and disabled people it’s not futureproof because as we know we have a rapidly ageing population yet here we have a brand new piece of infrastructure, a brand new project that is not futureproofed for our ageing population.”
5AA “We can put a person on the moon, surely we can find a way to make Adelaide’s public transport network accessible for all people now and far into the future.
